The Cherokee Nation was spread out over the Southern United States, but mainly in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. The Cherokee Nation was gathered at Red Clay, Tennessee, in 1838 and forced to march to Oklahoma. This march is called the Trail of Tears, and was the result of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. Besides the Cherokee Nation, the Seminoles, Chickasaws, Choctaw, and Creek tribes were also removed.
